Waves arising suddenly on a windless ocean is from the second verse of a well-known Korean Zen text The Mirror of Zen. The whole verse reads: “The appearance of all Buddhas and Patriarchs in this world can be likened to waves arising suddenly on a windless ocean.”
Such is the spiritual path and all of the conceptual baggage that comes with it. This blog revolves around the topics of Buddhism, Zen, and Advaita — Often analytical and critical with streaks of devotion.

Joe,
I was reading some of your writing. I like it. You are quite suited to this; informative, yet light in approach, friendly, engaging, well crafted sentences. You’re a scholar.
I like your treatment of the nihilistic consideration, though I claim little knowledge of the arguments. Say, if you go to my dharma page, look at the discussion at the bottom between a Christian monk and Korean one, from You Tube.
I like your blog. WordPress looks to be the most professional looking.
See you,
Carl

Hi Joe,
New blog I see. I am glad you moved to WordPress over Blogger. For me it was a big improvement. Best of luck on your new blog. Love the Korean quote by the way.
